The National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER) Act

The National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER) Act 2009 took effect on 1 July 2008. The NGER Act seeks to provide a national framework for the reporting of greenhouse gas emissions, abatement actions, energy consumption and production by corporations.

From 1 July 2008, corporations are required to register and report for 2008-2009 financial year where the following thresholds apply: They control a facility that emits 25 kilotonnes (kT) or more of greenhouse gases (CO2 equivalent), or produces or consumes 100 Terajoules (TJ) or more of energy. Their corporate group emits 125kT or more greenhouse gases (CO2 equivalent) or produces or consumes 500TJ (0.5 PJ) or more of energy.

From 1 July 2009, corporations are required to register and report for 2009-2010 financial year where the following thresholds apply: They control a facility that emits 25 kilotonnes (kT) or more of greenhouse gases (CO2 equivalent), or produces or consumes 100 Terajoules (TJ) or more of energy. Their corporate group emits 87.5kT or more greenhouse gases (CO2 equivalent) or produces or consumes 350TJ (0.35 PJ) or more of energy.

From 1 July 2010, corporations are required to register and report for 2010-2011 financial year where the following thresholds apply: They control a facility that emits 25 kilotonnes (kT) or more of greenhouse gases (CO2 equivalent), or produces or consumes 100 Terajoules (TJ) or more of energy. Their corporate group emits 50kT or more greenhouse gases (CO2 equivalent) or produces or consumes 200TJ (0.2 PJ) or more of energy.

How can we help with Energy Efficiency Opportunities (EEO)

A corporate emitting 125kT of CO2 or consuming 500TJ of energy has an approximate electricity cost of A$ 6 to 12 million. We can help by showing you how to maximize the benefits of participating in Energy Efficiency Opportunities (EEO) as per the NGER act, while minimizing the total cost. We have a good understanding of EEO program and its requirements. We will help identify efficiency opportunities, equip the organization with knowledge and skills and build systems and practices that can help the organization at achieving energy savings on a continuous basis.

Green IT Services & Solutions

Use Green IT tools and software solutions to:

Measure kilowatt usage

Change to energy efficiency processes

Energy cost reduction

Carbon emission reduction

Some of the techniques to reduce power consumption and cost include:

Intelligent idling of hardware to conserve power

Customizable power plans to refine power settings

Centralized management of power settings

The assessment is performed using Assessment & Configuration and Planning Toolkit. The organization can realize energy and carbon footprint savings within client and server operating system environment in a very short time.
